Welcome to Travels in Bear Country, featuring the award winning photography of Steve Hinch. The galleries and stock photography here feature photography from Yellowstone National Park and the surrounding region of Montana and Wyoming. Images include landscapes, thermal features, and native wildlife. Also featured are landscape and wildlife images from other national parks.

	1/31	I closed out the Summer Yellowstone 2009 Gallery and the Smokies 2009 Gallery and moved selected images from those galleries into the Yellowstone Gallery and the Smokies Gallery.
	12/14	Poland 2009 Photo Gallery has been added. These photos are a departure from my regular photography. They're not in the US, obviously, but they're also more cultural in context rather than my usual nature and wildlife. I had a great time in Poland and had a lot of fun creating these new images. Working with new subjects can be difficult but also inspiring.

		Three Amigos and Bottoms Up were honored as First Place selections in the Nature's Best Photography Windland Smith Rice International Photography Awards in 2007. In addition, both images were displayed in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. These images can be ordered as prints by going to the ordering page and following the instructions.
		Winter 2007-2008 1613* (34% of estimated herd size) Total number of Yellowstone Bison slaughtered by the National Park Service and Montana Department of Livestock to date (final tally). Estimated summer herd size for 2007 was 4700 bison (source). Visit Buffalo Field Campaign for more information. *- this figure represents the largest number of bison slaughtered in the Yellowstone ecosystem since creation of the national park.
